The University of Cincinnati’s Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner program helps students gain insight into the unique needs and challenges of working with women of all ages. Our courses focus on promoting the importance of the client-provider relationship and empowering women to make informed decisions regarding their health and well-being.

This degree requires 49 credit hours and 672 hours of clinics, and coursework can be completed in six semesters or two years of study. This program is offered fully online, and requires students to attend a two-day virtual, synchronous program intensive to network with cohort members, meet faculty and personally experience the high-quality culture and competence of the University of Cincinnati. What’s more,  the University of Cincinnati’s Nursing Program is ranked #11 for online graduate nursing programs by U.S. News and World Report.

The focus of this course is the understanding of biostatistics for application to nursing and evidence-based practice. Emphasis is placed on the interpretation and appraisal of data analyses for the selection and use of best evidence for making practical conclusions about empirical data.

Advanced Physiology and Pathophysiology
Course: NURS8022
Credit: 3-4
This course builds upon basic knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of disease across the life span. The emphasis is on applied physiology and pathophysiology to enable advanced practice nurses understand how and why the clinical manifestations of disease occur so that appropriate therapies can be selected.

Pharmacology for Advanced Practice Nurses
Course: NURS8024

This course prepares nurses for professional roles in advanced nursing practice with knowledge of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles of common drug categories used to prevent illness, and to restore and maintain health for client systems across the life span. Mechanisms of action, pharmacologic response, usual doses, adverse effects, indications, interactions, compatibilities, contraindications and routes of administration are emphasized in acute and chronic conditions. Six hours of legal, ethical and financial content related to prescribing is addressed in this course as required by the Ohio Board of Nursing.

This course provides opportunities for the advanced practice nurse student to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for the performance of comprehensive and focused health assessment. This course addresses clients across the lifespan and the pediatric and family students receive additional pediatric information in their lab sessions.

This course explores the anatomical and physiological basis for advanced nursing practice in reproductive health care. Emphasis is on anatomy, physiology, and reproductive endocrinology in the adult female, male, fetus and neonate. Fetal development is examined from the perspective of maternal and environmental contexts.

This course prepares students to assume the professional and leadership roles in clinical practice while caring for women from diverse backgrounds during the antepartum and postpartum periods. Emphasis is placed on the interprofessional, collaborative management of care using interventions to achieve quality, safe outcomes. Students use scholarly inquiry to further develop their practice. Evidence-based research about normal and at-risk client systems is applied to maintain, enhance or improve quality of care.

Emphasis is placed on the interprofessional, collaborative management of care using appropriate interventions to achieve quality, safe outcomes. The professional, social, political, legal, ethical, economic and financial factors that affect women’s health care practice are analyzed.

This course prepares the student for fully integrated practice as a women’s health nurse practitioner. Included are at least 0.5 credits (7 clock hours) of pharmacology content. The professional, social, political, legal, ethical, economic and financial factors that affect advanced nursing practice are analyzed. Knowledge is further integrated through the use of comprehensive exams.
