The Mammography Certificate program consists of six credit hours delivered over two semesters. Students will complete two courses in the fall, and two courses in the spring.

Breast Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology

This course introduces foundational knowledge in breast anatomy, physiology and pathologic changes with correlation between breast anatomic structures and corresponding anatomic structures on medical images.

Mammography Principles and Procedures

This course emphasizes preliminary patient assessment, technologist-performed physical breast evaluation, and documentation of findings required for a comprehensive examination for medical imaging correlation of the breasts. Emphasis on various mammographic positions and projections along with the clinical data needed to perform the examination for both screening and diagnostic mammography, including interventional procedures.

Mammography Instrumentation and Quality Management

An introduction to mammography equipment along with mandated requirements governing use and factors that influence the acquisition of mammographic images. Accreditation, state and federal statutes and regulations, and service delivery standards are included.

Mammography Clinical Practicum

Clinical experience in the performance of mammographic procedures, including patient preparation, education, interventional procedures, and the required quality control tests described by the American College of Radiology (ACR) Mammography Quality Control Manual. Includes 100 supervised mammography procedures, which meets requirements of the Mammography Quality Standards Act. Designed to meet or exceed the minimum competency requirements for certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Students are responsible for acquiring a practicum site and preceptor.
