Faculty Spotlight: Meet Linda Long, Ed.D – Professor of Management/Marketing

Since 1984, Linda Long, a Professor of Management/Marketing at University of Cincinnati (UC), Clermont College, has been inspiring and instructing students on management and marketing theory and practice and their integral role in the world of business.

We recently spent a few minutes with Linda to get her thoughts on working at UC and her connection to the Associate of Applied Business in Marketing Management Technology degree, a fully online program that students can complete in two years.

What are some of the things you like about working at UC?

I enjoy the fact that I help students reach their educational goals and make their time with UC both valuable and enjoyable.

Generally, who enrolls in the Marketing Management Technology Associate program? Is it a diverse mix of ages, experiences and backgrounds?

At one point, the average student’s age was in the late 20s, but we are attracting more students directly out of high school and the average age has been dropping. But we still have an overwhelming majority of students in the program who are already in the workforce.

How can earning an associate degree help a person go further in their career?

As businesses have evolved, the requirements for moving up in one’s career has evolved, too — so, all higher education helps further one’s career and get that critical “foot in the door.” And I’ve heard many students say that jobs that could be had with a high school education in the past now require an associate degree.

What are some of the Marketing Management program classes that you believe students will find enjoyable or particularly relevant?

The program focuses on some very interesting areas, such as consumer behavior (a fascinating mix of psychology and marketing), advertising and promotion (what we experience in our lives every day) and digital marketing, which cutting-edge companies incorporate into their overall marketing strategy and tactics.

What options do students have after completing their associate degree in marketing?

Our degree leads directly into the Bachelor of Technical and Applied Studies (BTAS), a University of Cincinnati Online (UCO) program that perfectly positions students for continuing their marketing education. It’s an excellent option for students who believe their career opportunities could expand even further by earning a bachelor’s degree.

Is there anything that makes UCO’s associate program stand out?

What’s great about our two-year marketing degree is that a student can stop with the associate degree or seamlessly move toward the bachelor’s degree. The BTAS is a “2+2 program,” meaning it’s designed for students with an associate degree and provides an easy transition from the associate to bachelor level — all without losing any credit hours earned during their associate studies.

Often, a student will take a new position where their employer will provide tuition assistance, so they take advantage of the opportunity to get additional education and choose the BTAS program.

Linda, do you have any hobbies or special interests you’d like to share with UCO blog readers?

In addition to my interest in all things marketing, I love to read, work jigsaw and cryptogram (encrypted text) puzzles, swim and travel.

Any parting thoughts for someone interested in UC and the online Marketing Management associate degree program?

I hope to see you in one of my classes in the future! You can’t do better than the skills and experience you will get as part of the well-known and well-respected UC family.
