Graduation Support: Bachelor of Science Law and Paralegal Studies

Each student in the Bachelor of Science in Law and Paralegal Studies program at UC Online has access to a student success coordinator who offers support from enrollment to graduation. With the support of student success coordinators and excellent faculty, the University of Cincinnati’s law and paralegal alumni move on to work in local law firms in the greater Cincinnati area, at state and federal government agencies, and in legal roles in a growing number of private companies. Read on to meet Jennifer, your student success coordinator, and learn about the support and the help you will receive while in the Bachelor of Science in Law and Paralegal Studies program.

Step-by-Step with Jennifer

Program: Bachelor of Science in Law and Paralegal Studies

Background:

I have worked in the education field for over 20 years as an adjunct professor, academic coach, and academic blogger. I am also a parent of two college students!

Orientation Support:

My goal is to connect with each new student via a personal phone call (officially named a welcome call). During the call, we discuss the class format for the BS Law & Paralegal program (synchronous vs. asynchronous courses), course load (full-time vs. part-time study), and online tools that the student will use during the semester.

Students are also invited to a live, virtual orientation with the BS Law and Paralegal program director, Emma Fletcher, where they can ask questions to ensure they feel prepared to begin the program.

Administration Support:

In addition to the student success coordinator, students have access to a program advisor. The student success coordinator, program directors, and enrollment specialists meet throughout each semester to troubleshoot and address student needs. Students may view the student success coordinator as the first line of support, but there are multiple ways a student can obtain answers to their program questions, including the program faculty — all of whom are well-connected, licensed attorneys.

Course Registration:

As the student success coordinator, I provide students with information on the university registration system, Catalyst. We discuss the semester structure (first-half and second-half semester classes), semester deadlines, and related tasks such as dropping a course and viewing their course schedule. I send registration reminders via phone, email, and text messages.

Check-ins:

I reach out to students daily to provide how-to resources, such as accessing course content, finding scholarships, and sending official transcripts. I follow up with students to offer guidance if they are uncertain of which semester they wish to start their program or need to withdraw from classes.

Graduation Support:

During the welcome call, we discuss the anticipated graduation year based on the projected semester course load. At any time, students can check in with the program advisor with questions about staying on track for graduation. As a student success coordinator, I also monitor graduation progress and check in to see if students have any concerns with program progress. Our goal is to help you succeed, and we welcome frequent communication, openness, and questions!

If a Bachelor of Science in Law and Paralegal Studies degree seems like a good fit for you, I look forward to meeting you and helping you succeed in the program!
