UC Online Expands its Degree Offerings in Business and Healthcare

The University of Cincinnati Online is excited to announce two new business associate degree offerings with online programs for Associate of Applied Business in Healthcare Management and Associate of Applied Business in Business Management Technology.

Healthcare Management

UC Online has added an Associate of Healthcare Management program that will help students prepare for an entry-level business career within the healthcare industry. If you have thought about working in the healthcare industry but are uncertain about caring for patients, consider this fully online, two-year healthcare management degree program.

This program will teach you about the overall management of a healthcare facility like a clinic or hospital. Your duties as a healthcare management professional may include: planning processes, preparing budgets, creating departmental goals and strategies to reach them, and working to improve the quality of healthcare services.

In addition, the Healthcare Management Technology (HCMT) Program:

  • Is 100% online
  • Will prepare you to take the Certified Physician Practice Manager (CPPM®) exam which is mapped to the Certified Physician Practice Management credential offered by AAPC®.
  • Allows for full- or part-time scheduling so you’ll have the flexibility to balance work and family obligations while earning your degree.
  • Easily enables you to transition into our online Bachelor of Technical and Applied Studies (BTAS) program to complete your bachelor’s degree in two years!
Business Management Technology

The Business Management Technology Associate program is another fully online, two-year degree program that has been added to UC Online. This program will prepare you to move into an entry-level supervisory or management position within a variety of business settings.

By earning your Associate Degree in Business Management Technology, you’ll gain the skills and knowledge you need to meet your career goals.  You’ll learn basic business and management concepts and develop essential skills such as communication, critical thinking, and teamwork, which are valuable in any career.

  • Will help you upgrade your current management skills so you are prepared for an entry-level management position.
  • Offers the flexibility you need to balance work and family obligations with part-time and full-time scheduling.

Healthcare Management and Business Technology Career Outlook

Now is the perfect time to earn your Healthcare Management Associate Degree or your Business Management Technology Degree in one of these lucrative fields as both the healthcare and business technology sectors are predicted to grow. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the entire healthcare industry is projected to add about 2.4 million new jobs from 2019 to 2029 with a median wage of $68,190. Employment in management occupations is also expected to grow five percent from now through 2029, with a median wage of $105,660.

Growing Careers in the Business and Health Sector
  • Healthcare Consultant. A healthcare consultant is someone who learns about and analyzes healthcare organization’s operations to see if there are efficiencies to be made. Consultants can also help organizations identify ways to streamline costs and increase revenue.
  • Skills needed to succeed as a healthcare consultant include possessing an outgoing personality and working with people, being detail-oriented, having strong research and analytical skills, and being adept at communication. Some consultant jobs in healthcare also require traveling, so enjoying that is a plus. Your associate’s degree in a healthcare management program, a public health associate, a Bachelor of Technical and Applied Studies (BTAS), or a degree in Applied Business in Healthcare Management can all help get you there.
  • Health Information Manager. Health information managers work in hospitals and in other medical settings to protect patient data. They make sure medical data is secure, accessible, and accurate so that all parties involved (patients, physicians, etc.) are able to access medical records in a safe and reliable way.To work as a health information manager, you need at least an associates degree or higher in health, a business management technology program, or a related field. Employers might also require you to have experience working in healthcare or management in some capacity as well.
  • Pharmaceutical Project Manager. A pharmaceutical project manager oversees the whole process of creating a new product within a pharmaceutical facility or in a lab setting. Duties can include managing a schedule, timelines, budgets, other team members, and more for the product/project.To work in this field, you’ll need at least an associate’s degree to start, but going on to earn your bachelors degree will help you achieve a higher-up position with more responsibilities. Often, project managers have a degree in business administration, a public health associates degree, a degree in healthcare management, or a similar degree.
  • Hospital Administrator. Hospital administrators take care of the day-to-day tasks associated with running a hospital. They evaluate doctors, nurses, and other hospital employees. They also have to keep up with and implement new policies and procedures that deal with patients, medical treatments, and public outreach like fundraising.People with good organizational and leadership skills will do best in this position. Degrees needed to work in hospital administration include an associate’s degree (or higher) in healthcare, an AS in public health, or similar degree.
