What motivated you to seek this degree or certificate program? After researching career options and how to advance in the healthcare industry, I found that an Associate of Science degree was insufficient for my career goals. I knew I would at least need a four-year degree. Why did you select the University of Cincinnati (UC)/UC Online over other institutions? I chose UC because it has the only curriculum that was both practical for my current job at the time and that I found interesting. The classes in the curricula of other programs just didn’t look like they’d transfer over well or that I could get excited about studying. Why did you choose an online program vs. on campus? I chose an online degree because I work full time, have a family, and have many leisure activities I enjoy. An online degree is the only way I’d have the flexibility to not compromise other areas of my life. What made you choose your current field of study? Was there a personal or professional reason? I chose this field of study because it directly applies to my current line of work, I find it interesting, and it sets me up for further academic growth if that’s what I chose to do. How was the admission process? Did you have any trouble applying to the program? The admission process was quite smooth! The counselors were responsive and helpful in a way that made navigating each step of the way a painless process. What were your expectations of the program, and do you feel that they were met? My expectations of the program were that they’d be more cognitively demanding than my A.S. degree, but also that they would allow for a little more flexibility and autonomy. I feel like this assumption was mostly accurate. Overall, how would you describe the online learning experience? Do you feel you had the full college experience? Overall, I would describe my online learning experience as positive, self-paced, flexible, and a good learning experience. I do not feel I had “the full college experience,” but that is okay as that is not what I was looking for in the first place. I was looking to further my education in a way that fit with my lifestyle. What are your thoughts on the faculty of this UC Online program? How were your interactions with them? Are there any faculty members you’d like to recognize? The faculty was great! Very helpful, responsive, and encouraging. The program director, Lori McAleer, really shines through when thinking of everyone I had the experience of working with and learning from. She was fantastic the whole program through. She did a phenomenal job of more than just teaching and supervising, but also guiding and mentoring. She really felt like the heart of the program. Did you interact with the UC Online staff? What are your thoughts on them? Would you like to recognize a particular staff member? My student success coordinator was pivotal in my completion of the program. Any question, concern, or hiccup along the way she was there to help me navigate and overcome. I’m very grateful for all of her help. What would you say to someone who is considering this or any other program at UC Online? Start. Just start as soon as you can. It may take awhile, but if you stick to the plan you’ll be so happy you chose to just start. Overall, would you recommend the University of Cincinnati Online to others? Why or why not? Overall, I would recommend UC online to anyone interested in furthering their education. The classes are well thought through, and the instructors truly desire that you succeed. In addition, UC has built a team of support that can assist you along the way. Is there anything else you want to share regarding your experience with UC/UC Online? I’m grateful for the time and effort from the entire UC staff. I’m proud to have completed my degree from UC. What’s Next?
