Military Benefits & Financial Aid

From federal tuition assistance to the Montgomery G.I. Bill® and Post 9/11 G.I. Bill, there are many ways for active-duty service members, veterans, and their dependents to get financial support to help pay for a University of Cincinnati degree. Our Veterans Programs & Services office will help you understand the military and veteran funding available to you. No matter how you have served, or are serving, we are here to help you get the education you deserve.

Military Education Benefits

Post-9/11 G.I. Bill® - Chapter 33

This is one of the most popular VA education benefits. It covers up to 100% of tuition and fees, provides a monthly housing allowance, and includes a stipend for books and supplies. Eligibility is based on active duty service since September 10, 2001, with benefits tiered according to your length of service. If you qualify for the maximum benefit, you may also be eligible for the Yellow Ribbon Program, which covers any tuition and fees not covered by the G.I. Bill. Montgomery G.I. Bill Active Duty - Chapter 30

This program provides up to 36 months of education benefits to veterans who have served at least two years of active duty. It can be used for degree programs, certifications, and training.
Montgomery G.I. Bill Selected Reserve - Chapter 1606

For those serving in the Selected Reserve, this program offers up to 36 months of education benefits. It applies to members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard Reserve, as well as the Army and Air National Guard.
Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) - Chapter 31

Designed for veterans with service-connected disabilities, this program provides financial support for tuition, fees, books, and supplies. It also offers employment assistance to help veterans transition into the civilian workforce.
Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance (DEA) - Chapter 35

This benefit provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition or who died while on active duty. DEA offers up to 36 months of education benefits.
Transfer of Educational Benefits

Under the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill, you may transfer unused education benefits to your spouse or children. This allows your family members to pursue their education with financial support from the VA.
Military Tuition Assistance (TA)

Active-duty service members can utilize Military Tuition Assistance (TA) to cover up to 100% of their tuition expenses. The University of Cincinnati works closely with military education offices to ensure a smooth application and payment process.
VA Benefits by State

Most states offer unique benefits and services to Veterans and their families. To find out what benefits your state VA department offers, refer to the State Benefits Guide from the Veterans Affairs website linked under the VA Resources section below.
Active Military & Veteran Scholarship

The University of Cincinnati proudly offers multiple scholarships for Active Military and Veterans. Scholarships are offered per semester and are available for full-time and part-time students. Request information from an enrollment services advisor and see if you qualify

How to apply

We understand that this process can sometimes be overwhelming, so we wanted to outline the steps you need to take to qualify and receive your benefits at the University of Cincinnati.

- Submit an application with the VA to determine eligibility
- Apply for admission to The University of Cincinnati
- Confirm your degree program and major
- Prepare for out-of-pocket expenses
- Work with a college advisor to select appropriate courses
- Complete the VPS benefits form and submit it to the Office of Veterans Affairs
- Check your eligibility for Ohio in-state tuition through the “Ohio G.I. Promise” and apply if appropriate
