In an attempt to become more competitive, industry is looking for individuals that understand how to both problem solve and eliminate waste within an organization. Although lean six-sigma is associated with manufacturing, the principles can also be applied to any process, eliminating the 8 types of waste: • Defects • Overproduction • Waiting • Transportation • Inventory • Extra processing • Under Utilized talent • Motion The course will be project based and utilize lectures and various case studies to demonstrate the application of principles.

Industry 4.0 describes the evolution of industry toward inter-connectivity, automation, machine learning, and basing decisions on real-time data acquisition.  The course provides students a broad understanding of the industrial internet of things (IIOT) which encompasses physical production and operations with smart digital technology, machine learning, and big data analysis to create a connected ecosystem for organizations that focus on manufacturing and supply chain management.

Examines the processes and the techniques used to ensure quality of an item, a system, a process, oran engineering endeavor. The topics of total quality management, statistical process control, and quality systems are explored. Also, the historical development and current trends in quality are examined.

Effectiveness in Technical Organizations

This course examines the non-technical factors that enable engineers and other technical professionals to maximize their contribution to organizational effectiveness. The course covers communication processes and impediments to effective communication including written communication, presentations, and meeting facilitation. Models of motivation as regards technical professionals are presented and their application to the work setting are examined. Leadership models and the interaction of leaders and followers are also presented. Conflict management and appropriate methods for constructively dealing with this are discussed. Students develop personal development plans for continued learning and performance improvement.

Interdisciplinary Innovation for Engineers

Interdisciplinary Innovation for Engineers provides students in technical disciplines a practical and focused set of innovation competencies and processes that are needed to add high-order value to all organizations in a dynamic economy. This interdisciplinary course will enable students to develop foundational attitudes, skills, and knowledge for both core business and engineering innovation functions. This course is designed as a practical, systems-oriented, meaningful experience for learning future-oriented competencies to contribute to all types of organizations while accelerating career enhancement.

The course introduces students to the fundamentalsand technological aspects of robotics. It presentsthe industrial and advanced applications of robot manipulators and wheeled mobile robots. It concerns the theory of manipulator structures including kinematics, statics and trajectory panning, and the technology of robot actuators, sensors and control units.

Robot Control and Design

The course deals with the advanced aspects of robotics. It concerns dynamics and motion control of robot manipulators, interaction with the environment using exteroceptive sensory data (force and vision), wheeled mobile robots and motion planning.

AEEM6117

Intelligent Robotics

The course consists of two major parts. The first part is an introduction of the fundamental theory and algorithms of robot dynamics and control, which is a foundation for design, analysis and operation of robots. The second part introduces topics of intelligent control of robotic systems, which reflects the cutting-edge research activities in the field of robotics. An interesting project involving both hardware and software regarding multi-robot intelligent control will be assigned and completed throughout the course.

Introduction to Applied Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Tools*

This course is designed for professionals who already have basic knowledge of Python programming and basic algorithms, but are looking to refresh their knowledge and expand their hands-on skills on recent Machine Learning tools. Students will be introduced to popular AI techniques conceptually and will learn to evaluate the performance of the algorithms themselves, taking advantage of the latest tools available. Furthermore, they will learn how to adapt and customize the algorithms on new problems reviewing examples. Supervised learning techniques (regression, classification, neural networks and SVM), unsupervised learning techniques (clustering, SOM, PCA) and anomaly detection algorithms will be covered.

  • Applicants must possess an engineering bachelors’ degree from a regionally and ABET accredited college/university, preferably in the area of Electrical/Mechanical/Robotics Engineering.
  • Applicants with a background in the following areas may also be considered:
      • Similar Engineering Disciplines
      • Physical Science
  • Overall minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (recommended)
  • GRE- GRE scores are required if:
    • Applicant’s bachelor’s degree is from a non-ABET accredited program.
    • Applicant’s bachelor’s GPA is below a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
    • Applicant is an International Student with a bachelor’s degree earned outside of the United States.

Transfer Credits

You may transfer up to one third of the credits of the program, about 9 credits credit hours of graduate courses from a regionally accredited college or university. These credits must have been earned within the last five years prior to admission and be approved by the program faculty.

Transferring from one graduate program to join another at UC, all UC graduate credits taken as part of the incomplete program or under a certificate are eligible to use to fulfill requirements in the new program, based on faculty evaluation of the equivalence to courses in the new curriculum and program approval.

One letter of recommendation is required.

  • Recommendations should come from individuals who can attest to your academic and professional skills. References from current and former employers are always desirable. Additionally, recommendations from contacts within academia or professional organizations you’re involved in are also desirable.
  • The writing letter should explain who they are, their relationship to the applicant, and what they know of the applicant’s academic and professional abilities.
  • Letters of recommendation from family, friends or current students are not accepted.
  • Recommendations are submitted by the recommender themselves; they cannot be completed or submitted by the applicant or another party on behalf of the reference.

The University of Cincinnati's online course fees differ depending on the program. On average, students will accrue fewer fees than students attending on-campus classes.

The one fee applied across all UC Online programs is the distance learning fee. Students living outside the state of Ohio must also pay an additional “non-resident” fee to enroll in courses at UC Online. This fee is lower than the out-of-state fee for traditional on-campus programs.
