Why study Hospitality Management : ?

The one-year Hospitality Management Certificate Program is tailored to equip students with essential skills and knowledge, preparing them for roles in the hospitality industry. This streamlined program is designed to deliver a targeted curriculum, encompassing seven courses that delve into crucial elements of hospitality management and impart essential knowledge to deepen understanding of the sector. Crafted for completion within a single year, this program is ideally suited for students planning to enter the hospitality industry upon completion or those intending to further their education with an Associate of Applied Business in Hospitality Management. 

The program prepares students to pursue additional multiple certifications by reputable institutions such as the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) to gain accreditations such as START - Certified Guestroom Attendant and/or Certified Front Desk Representative. Students may take an examination to gain ServSafe certification from the National Restaurant Association, thereby expanding their professional capabilities and opportunities in hospitality management.

Admission Requirements

This program is open to all students with the desire to succeed in college, a high school diploma or GED, and SAT or ACT test scores. Although admission is open, students accepted into the program must meet the academic standards found in the Department Program Requirements in order to advance to upper levels of study. These Program Requirements are available on the department website. 

Students enrolled in the Hospitality Management Certificate Program demonstrate proficient communication skills, exhibit innovative problem-solving capabilities, and possess the agility required to adapt to the dynamic hospitality industry. They tackle assignments with creativity and a commitment to uphold high standards, effectively applying their academic knowledge to formulate practical solutions. Upon completion, graduates are suitably prepared to seek employment opportunities within various sectors of the hospitality industry, such as hotels, restaurants, resorts, event venues, and cruise lines.

Students who complete this program will be able to find careers in travel and tourism, as well as other sectors in the hospitality industry. 

The information provided is sourced from a third party, Lightcast. Their product, called Career Coach, combines extensive labor market data from Lightcast and the U.S.Bureau of Labor Statistics. It provides insights on industry, occupation, compensation, and projected growth for each profession. Economic and workforce information is available for various geographic regions. Some careers may require additional training or education.

This one-year certificate program may be used as a minor at UC, provided it is approved by the academic advisor for the degree program in which the student is matriculated.  

UC Blue Ash College and UC Clermont College will assign advisors. 

Students enrolled in Hospitality Management courses enjoy small classes and interaction with faculty and professional staff.

A grade of C- or better must be earned in all Hospitality Management courses. 

A student wishing to transfer to UC Blue Ash College and UC Clermont College from another accredited college or university should be guided by the following statement of policy: 

Transfer applications are individually reviewed, and acceptance is based on receipt of application materials, as well as official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended. An official evaluation of transfer credit from other colleges will be processed after the student’s file is complete. 

Credits are accepted from any institution currently accredited by any of the six regional accrediting agencies. Enrollment Services shall have discretionary authority to accept credits from other institutions in consultation with program directors or department chairpersons. 

Only grades of C or better are accepted. Special exceptions may be granted at the discretion of Enrollment Services in consultation with program directors or department chairpersons. 

There is a 10-year expiration limit for acceptance of transfer credits. Exceptions can be made by Enrollment Services in consultation with the appropriate program directors or department chairpersons. 

For all situations not covered by the above, the decision will be referred to the department involved when appropriate. 

Students changing majors from other programs or colleges within UC will be considered based on the same criteria as outside transfers.

Students who did not graduate from a high school in the United States of America must take an ability-to-benefit test and achieve the minimum specified score to be eligible for admission to a degree or certificate program at UC Blue Ash College and UC Clermont College. The scores will be used for placement in English courses and general advising for all courses.

Application Deadlines

The One-Year Certificate programs are designed to be completed in one year, provided students are full-time and do not need prep courses in English. 

The University of Cincinnati and all regional campuses are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
