Why study Health and Wellness Coaching : ?
The Osher Center for Integrative Health at the University of Cincinnati (OCIH) strives to improve the health of our local and global community through innovative, internationally-recognized research, education, clinical practice, and community engagement focused on advancing integrative health and wellness.
The growing field of Health Coaching emphasizes preventive care and lifestyle modifications, which has been shown to reduce the incidence of chronic diseases and improve overall public health. Health Coaches also engage the patient, so they feel more impowered to take an active role in managing their care, thus leading to better adherence to their personal healthcare plan. Incorporating health coaching into healthcare settings can also enhance the overall quality of care, promote patient-centered approaches, and contribute to better health outcomes while supporting the well-being of healthcare professionals.
Throughout this program, students will gain valuable leadership skills to take to their organizations and learn to integrate health coaching principles to address personal health needs for individuals. They will employ concepts in innovation such as design thinking to deliver creative solutions for improving cultures of wellbeing and mitigating health disparities. Students will also learn an interdisciplinary understanding as our program will cover diverse aspects of health, including nutrition, exercise, and mental health, fostering a holistic approach to wellness. After completing the certificate students will be eligible to sit for the National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) credential.
