Why study Respiratory Therapy?
The Master of Science in Respiratory Therapy is designed to educate respiratory therapists with a bachelor’s degree with increased knowledge and preparation to facilitate their transition into educator and/or managerial roles.
Program Goals
The goal of the Master of Science in Respiratory Therapy Program is to provide graduates of entry into respiratory care professional practice degree programs with additional knowledge, skills, and attributes in leadership, management, education, and research that will enable them to meet their current professional goals and prepare them for practice as advanced degree respiratory therapists. To that end, program coursework and experiences emphasize the competencies required of respiratory therapists to serve as leaders and educators in accordance with the standards of ethics and professionalism outlined by The American Association for Respiratory Care.
The program is designed for working adults who need to maintain employment while furthering their education. Students take 2 courses per semester for 5 semesters and have the ability to select one of three available concentrations that will focus on the career advancement that is right for them.
Admission Requirements
Qualified applicants must meet all of the criteria below:

Completed ‘Entry into the Profession’ degree in respiratory care or respiratory therapy from a CoARC accredited program

Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field of study with at least a 3.0 GPA

Active NBRC credentials as an or RRT

Active state license as a Respiratory Therapist
To be eligible for a holistic admissions review, applicants must submit all of the following materials:

Unofficial transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate (if applicable) coursework

Copy of NBRC credentials

Copy of state RT license

Two professional or academic references to provide letters of recommendation that address the applicant’s academic readiness for graduate-level work, work ethic, and habits, and the applicant’s communication and interpersonal skills.

References must have known the applicant for at least two years prior to submission.

The respiratory therapy industry is always growing and this degree is becoming as important as ever. Respiratory therapists are needed in intensive care units, emergency transport vehicles, labs, outreach agencies, and more.

Upon starting the program, a dedicated student success coordinator (SSC) will be assigned to all learners to help them achieve their academic goals. You will be introduced to your SSC as your first semester approaches, and they will be your primary liaison to the university all the way through graduation.
The Master’s in Respiratory Therapy degree at University of Cincinnati Online is unique because you can choose 1 of 3 concentration options: Health Informatics, Higher Education or Health Administration, so you can focus and excel on the career that is right for you. The program consists of 6 respiratory core classes, 1 capstone course, and 1 set of concentration courses.
Completion of the 30 program credits including 3 hours of Capstone. A 3.0 GPA is required to graduate.
Students who have earned graduate credits from accredited institutions may be eligible to apply some or all of those credits towards their pursuit of the online Master of Science in Respiratory Therapy. Please contact your Enrollment Services Advisor (ESA) for specifics about the policy.
We will accept transfers from other UC majors as long as they meet the criteria for admission into this program.
Current UC students must still complete the official graduate application process for the online MSRT program to be considered for admission.
Due to this program’s professional licensure requirement, students are not eligible to complete the program while located outside of the United States.
Applicants with college coursework completed outside the United States are required to provide a course-by-course foreign credential evaluation for each college or university you attended outside the United States. This evaluation must be obtained from a service listed on the NACES member website.

The online MS in Respiratory Therapy program accepts new applicants every semester. Application deadlines vary each term, please contact your Enrollment Services Advisor (ESA) for specifics about the current application windows.
The Respiratory Therapy, 520015, Master of Science, University of Cincinnati, is currently in the process of seeking Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) accreditation for the Master of Science graduate respiratory care program.
