All students not graduating from an ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited undergraduate engineering program located in the U.S. are required to take the GRE® General Test.

Minimum GPA

Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited institution with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher. All official transcripts must be from a regionally accredited or equivalent college or university.

GRE Scores

Official Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores are not required, unless the applicant:

  • Did not graduate with a four-year bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited undergraduate engineering or engineering technology program from an institution located in the United States OR
  • Did not achieve a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

International Applicant Requirements

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required from all international applicants and must be submitted electronically to UC. A photocopy of your scores should be sent with your application materials. This is required of all applicants whose native language is not English, including those with F-1 student visas and Green Cards. The minimum TOEFL score accepted, Internet-based is 85. The  International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.5 or higher is acceptable.  The university code for TOEFL is 1833; a department code is not required.
  • The TOEFL requirement may be waived for applicants with degrees (bachelor’s or master’s) earned in English from accredited universities and colleges in the UK, Canada, England, Australia, and New Zealand.
  • If you have a non-English transcript, it must be translated by an official translating agency. Please contact Educational Credential Evaluators, World Education Services or Global Credential Evaluators to get an official translation of your transcripts.
