What Is Health Information Systems?

Health Information Systems (HIS) professionals manage health information and medical records to ensure data quality, integrity, confidentiality, and security. HIS professionals communicate regularly with doctors, nurses, administrators and other healthcare professionals to ensure proper management and storage of electronic health records (EHRs).

Professionals who earn their health information systems degree online can specialize in several different areas of healthcare including medical billing, coding, health information and EHR management, health administration, cancer registry management and more.

CAHIIM® Accreditation

The health information systems accreditor of the University of Cincinnati is the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). The College’s accreditation for its Associate degree in health information systems has been reaffirmed through 2025.
