Health Information Systems (HIS) professionals manage health information and medical records to ensure data quality, integrity, confidentiality, and security. HIS professionals communicate regularly with doctors, nurses, administrators and other healthcare professionals to ensure proper management and storage of electronic health records (EHRs).

The health information systems accreditor of the University of Cincinnati is the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).
