Navigating Accreditation: Unlocking Opportunities for Healthcare Leadership at the University of Cincinnati Online

Regarding colleges, accreditation plays a crucial role in determining the quality and recognition of degrees. There are two types of accreditations: “nationally accredited” and “regionally accredited.”

Nationally vs. Regionally Accredited Colleges

Nationally accredited colleges typically receive accreditation from national organizations focusing on specific fields. These accrediting bodies may not meet the same rigorous standards as regional accrediting agencies and other institutions or employers may not recognize their accreditation.

Regionally accredited colleges receive accreditation from one of seven U.S. Department of Education recognized regional accrediting bodies. These accrediting agencies set high standards for accreditation, including faculty qualifications, academic programs, and student outcomes.

Which Accreditation is Best?

Regionally accredited colleges are broadly considered better because they offer a more comprehensive education, focusing on critical thinking and liberal arts, and strong academic programs in specific fields. Other institutions and employers more widely recognize their degrees, and graduates may have greater success in transferring credits, pursuing advanced degrees, and finding employment.

Due to these differences in accreditation, regionally accredited colleges and universities tend to have higher standards for accepting transfer credits and typically do not accept credits from nationally accredited institutions.

The University of Cincinnati (UC) is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, one of the seven regional accrediting agencies in the United States.

Accreditation and UC’s Healthcare Leadership Program

While it is important to research and choose a college that is accredited by a reputable agency and that meets your academic and career goal, the faculty and staff of UC’s Bachelor of Technical & Applied Studies – Healthcare Leadership degree program are not willing to let accreditation get in the way of your dreams.

They recognize that their students come from diverse backgrounds, and they will not hold the “wrong” accreditation against them. If you have a degree from a programmatically accredited allied health or health-related program from a nationally accredited institution and certification/licensure in your area of practice, the Healthcare Leadership program will accept you.

The Healthcare Leadership program is designed for students who already hold an associate degree and a current professional healthcare certification and seek a pathway to obtain a bachelor’s degree without losing credits from their associate degree, even from nationally accredited institutions.

With the Healthcare Leadership degree, you will gain healthcare leadership strategies, focusing on technologies, educational methods, and assessment techniques. You will also gain an understanding of the healthcare economy and its financial environment, as well as expert-level communication, critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving skills. Upon completion of the Healthcare Leadership program, you will be prepared to advance your career.
