What is Health Information Management (HIM)?
The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA®) defines Health Information Management as “the practice of gathering, analyzing and securing all forms of important medical information to help provide quality patient care.” If you want to work in the healthcare industry but don’t necessarily want to care for patients directly, this degree may be perfect for you!
UC’s online HIM program is designed for working professionals who want to advance their career without sacrificing their current responsibilities. Our advanced curriculum and professional practicum provides students with a well-rounded, relevant education with valuable real-world experience. UC’s HIM graduates are eligible (and well-prepared) to sit for the RHIA® exam and equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in a variety of healthcare, management and leadership roles.
Benefits of UC’s Online HIM Program:
UC’s RHIA® exam pass rate is +29% higher than the national average!
Our online HIM program is perfect for RHITs who want to advance and increase their earning potential by becoming a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). RHIAs work in a variety of settings including hospitals, physician practices, multi-specialty clinics, ambulatory and long-term care facilities. RHIAs are also in increasingly high demand in non-patient care settings including managed care and insurance companies, software vendors, consulting services, government agencies, education, and pharmaceutical companies.
UC’s Online Baccalaureate Degree program is fully accredited by CAHIIM®.
The official accrediting body for Health Information Management is the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). This professional accreditation qualifies our graduates to sit for the RHIA exam, ensures the highest quality program/curriculum and increases career marketability and employment opportunities. All inquiries regarding accreditation status should be directed to CAHIIM via mail (200 East Randolph Street, Suite 5100, Chicago, IL, 60601); via phone (312.235.3255); or via email (info@cahiim.org).

““I was struggling to find a degree program that would allow me to attend school and still maintain a full-time job. After researching several programs, I chose UC Online because it’s CAHIIM Accredited and offers degrees in both Health Information Systems (HIS) and Health Information Management (HIM). After successfully completing both of these programs, I can say without a doubt, that UC Online is the real deal! The Professors are amazing, the programs offer real-world experience, and the classes can be scheduled in a way that’s best for you. After graduating with my Associate’s in HIS, I received my RHIT credentials and landed my first medical coding job at a company I had always wanted to work for. I went on to complete my Bachelor’s in HIM, which opened even more doors for me, not only with my current employer, but with companies all over the U.S.! UC Online far exceeded my expectations. Although I live all the way in New Mexico, I’ve built professional relationships that I will maintain for the rest of my life!””
