The nursing degree programs at UC Online are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Prospective students must have a BSN from an accredited institution to enroll. An additional one year or more of RN work is preferred but not required.

What do Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioners do?

Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioners promote health in their communities with a special focus on culturally diverse and high-risk populations. They work with young adult, adult, and older adult populations conducting health assessments and helping patients manage chronic illness and other health issues. Fully licensed AGNPs are considered independent healthcare providers with prescriptive authority in all 50 states. They are also primary care providers according to federal law.


The online MSN AGNP program prepares professional nurses to work with patients at many different stages in life. Courses focus on in-depth study of a wide variety of advanced topics including physiology, health assessments, and the finance and economics of healthcare.

This accelerated curriculum is comprised of:

·       504 hours of clinicals

·       42 lab hours

For accelerated online students, this coursework can be completed in as little as 6 semesters, or two years. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for either the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) certification exam.

Graduates of this program will be eligible for licensure within the state of Ohio. Other states may have restrictions for out-of-state nursing programs and online programs.
