Read on to hear from Alexis about her time at UC Online, including her favorite classes and advice for those considering a law and paralegal education. What motivated you to pursue an associate degree in law and paralegal studies? Many of my family members are involved in law enforcement in one way or another as a profession. As I grew up around it, it became something that I was interested in pursuing in college. My ultimate goal is to become an attorney — this associate degree was the perfect first step for me! What were you doing before you began your degree program with UC Online? I came into the program straight after graduating high school in 2020. What is a favorite memory or proud moment you experienced during your time in the program? My favorite memory was participating in the special topics class as a freshman, where we met with real clients online via Microsoft Teams and helped them fill out legal forms. We were assisted by an attorney who was present during the calls, but it was my first hands-on experience and Professor Myers was excellent for this class! Was there a particular course you enjoyed? I always love any course that Professor Beetem teaches, but especially the Introduction to Paralegal Studies course taken as a freshman. This class was so thorough and helpful, and Professor Beetem ensured that everyone was able to gain practical knowledge from that class. What are your goals for your career or education? How has the AAB Law & Paralegal Studies program helped you get closer to achieving your goal? Since completing my associates degree in paralegal studies, I have decided to pursue my bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies, as well. Once my bachelor’s degree is obtained, my goal is to attend law school and hopefully become an attorney one day. This program has helped me to reach my goals because it has given me expectations for the real working world, provided me with all of the knowledge that is needed, and has even provided opportunities for hands-on working experiences through internships and coursework. Who would you recommend this program to? I would recommend this program to anyone who has interest in the criminal system or law, or has the desire to continue their education and become an attorney. This program is not only a pathway to gain a degree in paralegal services, but also teaches valuable information about all types of law, which can be the building blocks to other law degrees. Do you have any advice for students considering the AAB Law & Paralegal Studies program? I highly recommend that you consider this program! Walking out with my associate degree, I feel completely prepared to begin a career as a paralegal or continue my education. In many other programs, you must also do extensive training after completing the program. Through this program, I feel ready for the real working world. The professors are amazing, kind, and always ensure your success. Come find your forever home in the world of paralegal studies! You won’t regret it!
