Topics include laboratory safety, specimen collection and handling, quality, accreditation, licensure, and the fundamentals of measurement techniques and diagnostic testing. Emphasis is placed on understanding laboratory operations, the diagnostic process, laboratory specializations, and the critical role of laboratory professionals in patient care and disease management. Students will develop foundational skills to support their transition into the medical laboratory science certificate program.

*MLSC4069 Advanced Clinical Practice is a variable credit clinical practicum course. Students with a significant amount of discipline specific work experience in the associated clinical tasks will have the opportunity to apply for Life Experience Credit through the Office of Prior Learning Assessment at the University of Cincinnati, using a process that is already in place for the MLS Program students. Upon application to the program, the UC program faculty and staff will work with students to assess their level of clinical experience and their ability to meet requirements for earning Life Experience Credit.
