Back to Blog Faculty Spotlight: Prince Ellis – Associate Professor of Economics & Finance Blog Share Share on FacebookFollow us on LinkedInShare on PinterestShare via Email Prince Ellis, an Associate Professor of Economics and Finance, has been a faculty member at University of Cincinnati (UC) Clermont since 2014, teaching business, finance and economics courses to hundreds of students. We recently spent time with Prince to get his thoughts on working at UC and his connection to the Associate of Applied Business Financial Management Technology degree, a fully online program that students can complete in two years. What are some of the things you like about working at UC? UC gives you the flexibility to do your job well. The people around you trust you to do your job, and UC gives you the resources to do the work. Is there a “typical” type of student that enrolls in the Financial Management Technology program? Honestly, I don’t think there is a specific set of people. I’ve seen a mix of older and younger students come into the program. They’re either interested in finance and know exactly what they want to do professionally — or they’re focused on the industry and still need to figure out the direction they want to go. Overall, the program is good for anyone who has a passion for finance. How can earning an associate degree in finance help a person go further in their career? Different courses can help someone further their career. Corporate finance and business finance courses are invaluable to students. This program’s diverse curriculum help prepare students for a career in finance with its mix of technical, finance and business courses. We give students the tools they need to be ready in the financial industry and move their careers to the next step. The number of courses we offer equip students with the proper education and experience to thrive in the financial industry. What are some of the Financial Management Technology classes you believe students will find enjoyable or particularly relevant? The Stock Markets and Investments class is a good course. Students learn how to invest in mutual funds, bonds and stocks, and it provides a good background and knowledge that will help students do well in a financially focused career. Personal Finance is another one that comes to mind. Students go through their personal budgets and think about their goals and how they can achieve those goals with what they currently get paid. Students appreciate this class because it helps them take actionable steps to reach their future goals. What options do students have after completing their associate degree in financial management? All courses transfer into University of Cincinnati Online’s Bachelor of Technical and Applied Studies (BTAS). It’s a great option for students who want to continue their education and easily move on from our associate degree program without losing any hard-earned credits. Students can complete the BTAS in two years, studying full-time. And if they have transferable courses from another study program, we can look at what can be transferred over for them. Is there anything that makes this associate program stand out? Our program is well-constructed, and students do well in it once they commit — and we check in with them to make sure they’re doing well. UC Online’s course design and usability of courses are outstanding. Our instructors are very good, and they have dedicated office hours, so students know when they’re available. Many have taught online programs for a while now and have extensive knowledge of creating online content. Do you have any hobbies or special interests you’d like to share with UCO blog readers? I love sports and enjoy tennis, ping pong, golf, basketball and soccer. I also spend time playing with my kids. Any parting thoughts for someone interested in UC and the online Financial Management associate degree program? We have a wonderful associate degree program here. Not only is UC Online a recognized leader in the online education space with two decades of experience, but the university also has a rich heritage dating back two centuries. It’s a great place to be a student — and a professor! _____________ Our Enrollment Services Advisor team is here to help you learn more about the online associate degree in financial management.
